Shoulder Capes & Arm Protectors
Our Avian Vet, Dr. Burkett, generally recommends that birds do not play on shoulders. However, he feels that some birds can play on shoulders without problems. If your bird plays on your shoulder and is not aggressive and will step up onto your hand from your shoulder when asked, then shoulder rides are allowed. Keep in mind that the larger parrots such as senegals, conures, mini macaws, and other parrots larger than a cockatiel, budgie, or love bird, can be less predictable, and more aggressive in some cases. These and other large birds should not be allowed on the shoulder if they begin to show behavioral changes.
